"The mission of the library is to encourage students to become effective users of ideas and information and life long lovers of reading and literature."

The Lane School Library Media Center offers a variety of materials and resources for our students, staff and parents. Our reference section includes print as well as non-print holdings. Students and staff may search the on-line catalog to see what books and other materials are available at all four of the school libraries in Bedford. We also enjoy a good relationship with the Minuteman Library System, which further extends our capacity to provide a diverse and rich inventory.

There are no fines for overdue books, but students are expected to pay for lost items.

Our library is staffed by a full time professional librarian, a full-time aide and a team of parent volunteers. The paid and volunteer assistance enables the school library to be open each school day for individual browsing or research as well as for classes. Books circulate for a two week period, but may be renewed twice. The circulation system is automated.

Students receive basic instruction in library skills and a variety of enriching and supplemental topics and, most importantly, research skills integrated with classroom projects.

An adult is always available in the library to assist students having difficulty doing research, studying or finding a book. The focus of library instruction is on making the best use of the library media center, learning the difference between fiction and non-fiction and becoming aware of the different genres of literature available as well as increasing skills in research. The care and responsibility of the library media materials, as well as their location, are stressed. The library strives to help the students and staff at Lane School become effective users of information and ideas and lifelong learners.

Linda Coviello is our Lane School Librarian. She is assisted in the library by Linda Young, Library Aide.
