MCAS Information

As most of you know, Federal Law requires us to test all students in Gr 3-5. This year Massachusetts has created a MCAS 2.0 which is being advertised as a combination of "old" MCASand the PARCC test (the multi-state test which Lane administered the last two years). The exact days of the test will be sent out to you in the next few days.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Do all students take the test on a computer?

No, the State is only requiring Grade 4 students to take the online version. The State is hoping this will give them more information as they move toward all students taking the online test in the next few years.

2. How many days does each student need to be tested?

All students have 3 days of English Language Arts and 2 days of Math. Grade 5 also has 2 days of Science.

3. Are the tests timed?

No..some students might elect to work for 3 hours while others could be done in 45 minutes. It depends on the child.

4. What is the purpose of the tests?

According to the Department of Education, the purpose is to "measure the academic achievement and progress of schools, districts and individual students."

5. What does the test not measure?

Creativity, resilience, motivation, persistence, curiosity, endurance, reliability, enthusiasm, empathy, self-awareness, leadership, courage, sense of wonder, sense of beauty, honesty, and integrity.
