What is a parent reunification site?

If public safety officials require that a school building be evacuated off-site, students and staff members will be safely transported by bus to a designated parent-student reunification center. Each school has a primary and a secondary evacuation site. Designated sites are chosen based on the resources available at the site. Some examples of the required resources are the ability to safely load and unload the buses, temperature and outdoor exposure, potable water, food, if necessary, and medical support (nursing staff).

Parents and guardians will be informed of the reunification location via the school system emergency messaging system and local media. At the reunification center, students will be released to their parents upon presentation of proper identification. It is vital that all parents and guardians follow the posted procedures at the reunification site in order to facilitate a quick, orderly and safe process. Generally, reunification sites are heavily staffed with school faculty and local police and fire officials.
